Day 96

Hello again! It has been a while. I have a few things to update everyone on. As of about 2 days ago, Kanyon is TUBE FREE!!!! His last tube was his feeding tube and the took that out since he is eating all of his bottles now. Here is his sweet face with no tubes, no tape, no NOTHING! Remember how it used to be covered with stuff?

This was just funny. They sometimes put these hats on them (I think they're sleeves cut into hats). We think he looks like a baker man. But...as you can see, it is a little big and slips over his eyes!

He loves laying on my shoulder like this. He thinks he's a grown up!

3 MONTHS OLD!

2 months (not the ideal angle, but the bubble bed made it hard)

1 month (or close to it)

Amazing to see that growth. We are so proud of him! Probably the biggest news--and the reason my life has gotten extra crazy--is that HE'S COMING HOME!!! Probably sometime Monday or Tuesday! Oh my goodness!! Can you believe it??!?! We have so many different emotions right now. I can't believe it is finally here. So..I've been running around like crazy trying to get things settled for him and still be at the hospital to feed him. I mean I know I had 3 months to get ready for this, but not really. So, here we are scrambling trying to get things ready enough! .

He had a head scan yesterday to check on that, we haven't heard what they thought about it. KEEP PRAYING!!! They're going to do a urine culture just to make sure he hasn't gotten another UTI..hopefully he hasn't. They've started taking him off his meds and that has gone great. We started "trying" to nurse this week. It will be a process, he still has a lot to learn, but it is good to at least get that started.

Pray for us this week. We are so many things right now...nervous, excited, thankful, anxious, but most of all CLUELESS!! :) We'll keep you posted!

Jaymie,

After following the incredible journey of your "phamily" for the last 3 months, I think I may safely say, concerning Kanyon's homecoming, you might well be "nervous, excited, thankful, and anxious."...BUT you are not clueless!!! You and Kory ARE great parents! God has already blessed you with all you need to love and care for Kanyon. Enjoy and congratulations on soon being a "stay at home" mom!

I am praising God with you that Kanyon is going home soon. I have so enjoyed watching him grow and mature into the healthy little boy that he is becoming. Thank you for taking time out of your busy life to send the updates that you have. I feel like he is part of my family. All of you as a matter of fact.

Don't worry about being clueless. It will come to you just it has since the beginning. He is blessed to have you as parents. I will continue to pray for him, that all goes well with his head.

God continue to bless you all as I know that He will.

Jaymie-How exciting! It is nerve-racking for any parent to bring home a new baby, so remember that in the next few days. Please feel free to call me when you get home if you need help with anything. Don't give up on nursing if you can help it--it's the best thing! Call me if you need advice about that--you can work through just about any problem that comes your way, nursing or otherwise. We'll all be praying for you even more now! Good luck! Emily R.

Praise God!! I am sitting here with my eyes full of tears. I have been praying for this day to come for you guys. In some strange way I feel like my emotions from Hayden's experience in the NICU have carried over to Kanyon and I have continued to feel like I'm on this journey with you. I am ecstatic!! I pray that you just take one day at a time. Yes, it is overwhelming and believe me, when the dust settles from this rough beginning there will be days where you will just sit and cry with that precious boy in your arms out of thankfulness to God and out of sheer disbelief that you went through this experience. The emotions will be all over the place. If you ever need to talk please know I'm around!! We are so excited for you guys!!! You really will have to keep us all updated after Kanyon is home. He has really developed quite a fan club!! :)
God bless!!!

WOW!! I'm so excited for ya'll. Today is my little Gibson's birthday. So today, I've been remembering all of those memories of being clueless, scared, excited and tired. I remember thinking when we left the hospital, "I can't believe the hospital just lets people leave with a baby when they haven't a clue how to be parents. They should really have some sort of certification or something." We felt so overwhelmed. That feeling eventually goes away and before you know it, you'll be changing diapers in the dark. Then, the next thing you know, he'll be two years old. It goes by so fast! Congrats again on bringing home your precious son! Always praying!!!!

Jaymie and Kory,
The pictures of Kanyon just make me smile! He has such a precious little face. What great news that you will soon be bringing him home. Don't worry...I don't know of any parent that brought a baby home for the first time that was not clueless. Just relax and enjoy this sweet precious one. You only have them this small for such a short time. Let all the other stuff go and enjoy Kanyon.

Jaymie and Kory, just had to tell you that we got to see Kanyon tonight! We were up at the hospital to see Jeannine Butler and made a special trip to the 2nd floor. We found a wonderful nurse who thought the world of you guys and was delighted to show him off to us. She opened the blinds and the nurse that was giving him a bottle held him up for us. He was alert and totally content. We thought he looked "just right" for coming home this week! So very excited for you guys. The nurse said "that baby sure has been prayed over..." and we agreed! Thanking God for you guys and the wonderful way the Father has provided for you these past months! Your faith has shone brightly and we are so proud of you.
Lots of love,
Maggie & Rand E.

Hi Jaymie and Kory,
You don't know me, and I don't know you, but I have been following your story and Kanyon's progress since I came across it on blogger after your babies were born. I clicked on the 'next blog' and there was your story. I have checked your blog every day and had a special place for Kanyon in my heart. What a little fighter he is!
I am a mom of twin boys who are 3 in Portland, Oregon. I too was a first grade teacher. My boys spent time in the NICU but not nearly as long as Kanyon. It made me so happy to read this morning that he is going to go home! He looks great and so chubby. Congratulations and enjoy your little bundle of love.

I am doing the happy dance for you guys! I know it will be a strange transition but God will see you through. I know it will be a little bittersweet but GOd will see you through. I know that you will be overwhelmed and again...God will see you through! Just take it one step at a time an soak up all the time you have with Kanyon without doctors and nurses walking in the door to run tests. You are going to do a great job! Both of you are already great parents!

Could you have asked for a better birthday present J-me?! I love you-I am praying for you and praising with you! You are almost thier to the place that i have prayed for you since day one. Rocking your baby in the wee hours of the morning or singing to him before you put him down for his nap. Precious times!

Hi Jaymie-
I found your blog through a friend of a friend of a friend, I think :)! But I have been checking often for updates on your little man. He's beautiful. We had twins on June 30, 2002. On July 1st we lost Riley May. And I cannot believe that it has been 5 years. The Lord has been so gracious to us. Anna Kate is amazing. She's thrilled to be five. She can read. She loves princesses and she can run and play with the best of them. The day that we brought her home was the most amazing day of our lives. And we miss her sister every single day.
I am (and have been) praying for your family. Enjoy being home.
