Day 46

Well, things seem to be going well with Kanyon's recovery. This morning his Dr. actually said, "He did better than I expected" and she clapped her hands. That's a nice thing to hear and see after the events of the last week. They started feeding him my milk again and he has tolerated his first 2 feeds great so far. Pray that continues! His main goals are to eat and get a little lower on some of his vent settings. They aren't going to take him off the vent because he has to be on it for his next surgery, but it is safer for him to have as little help as possible. He is in quite a bit of pain, but they are keeping medicine in him to help with that. They took out the chest tube they put in after the surgery to help with draining and that was probably causing him the most pain. So, we're glad that thing is out of there! *Christie...make sure and tell sweet Macy that he's one tube less! I know she's prayed for him to get those tubes out! :)* We are very thankful for a good day today and a good recovery so far. If his good recovery continues, they are planning to put in his reservoir on Monday. Then after that, we shouldn't have to be here in Dallas much longer...of course we didn't expect to be here this long the first time...things can always change! We are thanking GOD for each bit of good news and each day that goes well. We are looking forward to having this all behind us so we can look towards the rest of his journey towards coming home. We have been blessed with wonderful people here taking care of him, but I know he misses the familiar voices of his nurses and Dr. in Longview. (we do too!)...they will be so proud of him when they see him...He's BIG! They actually weighed him right about 3lbs...which isn't "dry weight" some of that is fluid, but we'll take it! :) We are so proud of him and thankful for a good day. We ask GOD for more good days. Make sure and thank GOD for answering our prayers so far. We will continue to trust in Him.

I found your blog through another blog. I can relate to what you're going through. My son was a 26-weeker and was in the NICU for 96 days. What a roller coaster that was. He had chronic lung disease, Grade 3 brain bleed, anemia, bilateral hernias, retinopathy and I could go on and on. I truly didn't know if he would ever be "normal". Well, let me tell you...he's 20 months old now and you TRULY would never, ever know he was a preemie. He has perfect vision and hearing, has met every developmental milestone and melts my heart everyday. Everyday with him is a miracle and a blessing. I never take one second for granted with him. I know you're probably surrounded by sad stories and doctors saying they just cannot predict long-term outcomes, etc. Have faith that Kanyon will be fine--he will!! If you need support from people who understand--go to shareyourstory.org. I found this site after my son came home and it has helped me deal with the experience much better. Good luck to you.

J-me-
Quick story: I went into Reagan's room after reading your post to tell David the news. (He was getting her ready for bed.) I said the part about the doctor clapping her hands... and Reagan just started clapping! She has never done that before without me specifically asking her to! I guess she heard the great news and wanted to join in! Anyways, it made me cry a little, and I thought I would share that Reagan was clapping for her friend Kanyon! :) LOVE YOU!

"Is there anything new?", "Is there a new post?", "Did you check it?" ... these are the phrases that hundreds of husbands and wives ask each other first thing in the morning, or when one comes to bed later than the other. Of course... we're referring to "thephillipsphamily" blog.
You have no idea how much we have travelled these 45 days with you. No, were not obsessed, just passionate about you guys and Kanyon.
You are loved. You are in so many people's hearts and prayers. You are so gracious to let us peek into your lives... but it helps us pray for you.
Thank you Jayme and Rachel for keeping us posted. We are hurting with you and joyful with you. Thank you for letting us share your journey.
We will continue to pray for Kanyon, and you two, Kory and Jayme, as this has to be the hardest thing you thought you'd ever face. May God'd mercy and strenth be with you.

Praise God! As I was praying for you guys this morning I was struck by the image of the Creator's hands enveloping Kanyon's tiny body. It is truly the Lord's hands making Kanyon's body whole and healthy in His perfect way and perfect time.

Throughout this situation, I pray that God is revealing Himself, His love, and His faithfulness to you in ways you have never before known.

Sending love and prayers your way!

It felt so good to put my arms around you, Jaymie and Gay! There is NOTHING like cousin moments! I am so proud of you and I know that God is working a miracle in Kanyon, in us, and around the world. What a witness this journey has been to so many! Thank you for sharing the tiny diaper with me. I can't wait to show it to my mother! And it gives me a tangible link to precious Kanyon! I am anxious to hold him - Jaymie, you used to let me hold you for hours during our Spring Breaks in Paris. Precious memories! There are times when I still wish for the holding and cuddling days. Even in the midst of all the activity, life was sweet. I love you all. Thanks for a memory-making day in Big D!

Yeah, one day you will take your little boy home, hold him as much or as little as you want and enjoy the simplicity of it all. One day you will wake up in the middle of the night to feed and instead of having to pump, like you do now, you will get your baby who will be crying for you out of the crib and as you rock, your sweet baby, you will know that this is the moment that God answered all your prayers and all of our prayers. I continue to pray for that day. I printed up the pictures from today to post on my fridge so Jeff and I both can have that visible reminder to pray for you all. Here's to a great day!

Jaymie,
I praise God for the wonderful way Kanyon has come through the surgery! Happy Mother's Day! I have found that the more difficulties I go through with our children, the more I grow to love them. All these challanges are creating so much love in your heart for Kanyon.
We moved our baby Bethany home from Harding this week as a college graduate. It is hard to remember to savor each moment when children are young, but it does go by, oh, so quickly.
"Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you."
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18,28
Love and prayers,
