Battle Wounds

Several people have asked about Kanyon's different scars and stuff from his surgeries. I have pictures of them, so if you want to see them, continue, if not, just scroll to the bottom because there is a cute picture at the end. Ok, here's the tough guy.

#1 Left shoulder blade-PDA ligation (heart surgery). They went in back there and through his ribs to get to his heart. Much less complicated than going in the front having to break bones. When he had the surgery, that scar took up almost his whole back. Tiny little back. Not so much anymore!
#2 Under left arm-This is a tiny one from the chest tube they put in when they did the heart surgery. The chest tube helped drain fluid for about 12 hours, then they took it out.
#3 Top of his head-This was where they put in the temporary shunt. When they put in the permanent one, they used the same site, just made the incision bigger. You can also see the shunt in this picture. A tiny round thing, then the tube going down. As he gets more fat and more hair the shunt will be much less noticeable, if not invisible.
#4 Right side of his head-This is a small incision they used to route the tube down to his neck and on to his abdominal cavity where the fluid will reabsorb.
#5 Tummy-This looks like a sewn up belly button. I'm not real sure what they did here, but this is where the shunt tube ends I think. Something like that.
Hopefully those are the only scars he will have. Now for the cute picture:

Oh boy, we start 'em early I guess.

Thanks for sharing the battle wounds. I was curious about the heart procedure just in case Channing has to have heart surgery. Caden's chest bone had to be broken with his first heart surgery, but his second heart surgery was through his back like Kanyon's. I believe that Caden made it out with nine scars total. I can't believe how big Kanyon is getting! He is such a handsome little fellow! We're sending up prayers daily!

Just thought I would let you know that I'm still praying for you guys!! Canyon is such a cutie!! Just look at it this way, maybe since he has these scars now that were "intentional", maybe you'll be lucky and get through the rest of his childhood without any bike falls and other "unintentional" BOY scars. :) Happy to see he is doing so well!
