Message to Kanyon

I meant to do this before Kanyon's birthday and never got around to doing it. I'm going to give this a shot. I'm mentally (notice I said mentally, not physically) putting Kanyon's 1st year baby book together. As cheesy as this sounds, this blog has played a pretty huge role for our family this past year. Particularly those first few days in the hospital and then keeping everyone updated through our hospital stay, homecoming, surgeries, and the fun things too. SOOOO...I had this idea. I have promised to tell Kanyon the story of GOD's love through the countless people who supported him and prayed for him. I realize not as many people are reading the blog now as they used to, but I want to give it a shot. I have NO CLUE who all reads this so I'm asking you to leave a comment. Leave it for Kanyon. Say whatever you want to say to him. Even if we don't know you, you have helped us and I want to tell him the story with you in it. So, leave a comment on this post and I will use these in his baby book. Thanks for participating! It will be so fun to read these to him for years and years and years.

Posting without pictures would be a crime...this picture was taken a year ago yesterday. I was so so so so nervous and scared, but at the same time, so happy to feel my baby on my chest. I remember sneaking a kiss on his tiny head while the nurse wasn't looking (I didn't know if that was "against the rules" or not). It was an indescribable feeling holding a baby so tiny. He was less than a hand full and felt about like holding a kitten. Unforgettable.

Dear Kanyon, I have been reading about you since Christmas. Your grandmother Lucille sent us a Christmas card and I started reading all about you and your brave mom and dad. I check everyday to see what new things you are up to. I am married to your (second or third) cousin Spencer Carr. I don't even really remember meeting your mom.....but maybe I did at one of the family reunions about six years ago at Yellowbush. Kanyon, I am so impressed with your family and thier love of God and how much they love you. You are going to have the BEST times because your mom and dad know who to turn to in times of need. Jayme, thank you for such an encouraging and entertaining blog. We live in Northeast Georgia and I'm not even the one related to you but I feel so excited to hear of all your families accomplishments. We have two healty boys and your blog makes me remember to thank God everyday for all of the small miracles that we take for granted. Please keep on doing such a good job of raising Kanyon AND keeping us a part of your lives! Nancy Carr

Dear Kanyon...I remember the day your mommy and daddy posted this picture of the "first hold". I copied it to my computer, printed it, and put it on my bulletin board at work so that each morning, you were called to mind and I took you to the Father. The doctors and nurses, your parents, your family were all right there with, but many of us have taken the journey from afar. You have a special connection in my heart because while I was praying for you, I was asking God to give my own little grandson more time in his mommy's womb. As I followed those early days, I felt so connected to you...and through your first year, you have become like a member of my own family. I am sure there are many readers who have felt the same way. I wrote your sister a letter on her birthday, and shared how very proud I am of you...you are a fighter. The strength you have gathered in this first, very important year, is a strength I liken to the little shepherd boy, David. A giant threatened his life, yet God lifted him into His arms and carried him through the battle...just as He has done with you. Be blessed, little one. The very best is yet to come. Love and hugs from someone who still prays for you every day!

You are not related to me, but your momma sure is a special friend of mine, and that makes me feel kind-of like your Aunt! Also, I have a little brother named Kanyon! Some day you need to meet him. :) I was so excited when I heard that your momma had you and your sister in her tummy. We prayed for you guys along with our Ava that was in my tummy at the same time! We are so proud of you for being such a 'big boy' even when you were so tiny. We love you so much and you will always be something special to us. Keep up the good work! She is an amazing teacher and person, and I can only imagine what a special mommy she is. I don't know your daddy as well, but he must be an amazing man, too. I read your mommy's blog so I can see all the ways you are growing and changing, and all the ways God is using you to grow and change all of us. I pray today that God will bless you with health, strength, and a sense of His presence and love in your life. You are a little man of God, and I am so thankful that your mom writes about your life. Hi Kanyon,
My daughter, Hannah, was in the NICU with you in Longview. We were only there a week and then came home to Dallas, but I still keep up with you through the blog your mommy does. We got to see you at the NICU reunion in Longview in October and you had come so far then. I love reading how you are doing since you have come so far. I remember sneaking peeks at you from Hannah's bedside when you were very, very tiny. It makes me smile now to know that you are doing well, as is Hannah. Keep making your mom and dad proud!

It's not a surprise that you are so special....you have terrific parents and grandparents that love you with all their hearts. Even though we live in Montana, we feel like we know you so well.....that's because your mommy has done such a wonderful job of telling us all the things that you are doing and posting pictures so we can see how you are growing and changing. My dearest kanyon,
I will try to put in to this tiny space my enormous feelings. I remember the phone call saying you and Jayde were on your way. It is too early, so I call Mike Boone an elder at my church to get all the elders praying. I beleive that was just the beginning of the pray chain starting at this end. Cousin Morgan and I rush to Longiew for a surprise visit. We come bearing gifts and Of course you and your sister are too small for us to visit, but just knowing we are close is a wonderful feeling.
You and I will share other visits at the hospital, one that is a secret! shhh:) Thank you for keeping that secret, it was just the beginning of a unique and wonderful bonding time between you and me.It has been a year, a year of unbelievable love, challenges, praise and thanksgiving.
I love your parents and am in awe of their faithfulness in all they do. Kanyon, as you grow older I want you to know you have a great
auntie Nancye that is there for you, loving you and cheering you on in each new adventure. :)
God has blessed you with awesome grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. But in turn God has blessed us through you!

I have literally read entries on the blog, put my head down on my desk and BAWLED to God in prayer about you (and your sister) and your whole family. It was so hard for me to grasp that someone I knew, someone my age, someone that easily could've been me, was going through something so big in life. Having these two babies... taking one home...

Kanyon, let me just say: You have incredible parents. You are a lucky dude, for sure. Their love for God and their love for your well-being is evident in the everyday. As blessed as you are to have them as parents, I guarantee they feel just as blessed to have you as their son.

Godspeed,

You don't know me, but I went to college with your mom and have loved following your sweet little life through this blog. Your life it a miracle! I pray that you continue to grow stronger and begin to understand more and more just how much God loves you! Your mom and dad are so brave and love you so much too! I've told so many people about one of the first pictures I remember seeing of you where you were wearing your dad's wedding ring around your wrist--wow, you were so tiny a year ago. You have touched so many lives in your first year of life; it will be neat to watch you grow into a man that will touch many more!

Hi Kanyon, you don't know me, but I learned about your blog from a friend. I have been following your blog since you were a week old. You are really blessed with such wonderful parents and family. I was pregnant at the time I started reading your blog, my baby boy, Colby was born Aug. 1st. You have been through so much and you are such a fighter and an amazing little boy. I sometimes get disgusted because my little one doesn't sleep all night, but then I think about your mom and know that she has went through so much that a little less sleep for me is not even close to what she has went through. I hope to see you grow through out the years to come. Oh, I love the bug idea for the 1st Birthday. Good Job Mom!!

Kanyon,

I work for your Aunt Rachel's parents (Roger and Vicki Guess) at FSI in Bedford. When I heard of your mommy going into labor early with you and Jayde you all immediately found a home in my heart. My children, who are 13 and 7, have repeatedly asked about you, prayed for you all, and then in April of 2007 the three of us walked in the March of Dimes walk to raise funds for premature births. We walked in honor of you, and your sister, that day. We wore stickers on our shirts with pictures of all four of you from this blessed website. Many people approached us at the walk to let us know there was tremendous hope, and that they would include you in their prayers, as well. Your family has been so strong and an inspiration to many. I know the Lord has had his hand on you all since day one. I pray for blessed things to come, love to check in on your progress, and adore your sweet smile. This blog has touched so many. It's been an amazing year~to say the least. Happy Birthday! Oh yeah, also incase you haven't figured this part out yet-you have the most tremendous parents. Love and blessings to you all, ~Sarah Brennan

Congratulations on a great first year of life!
I've been blessed by watching you grow via your parent's blog. They've marked your physical growth by taking pictures of you laying beside a basketball. Soon you will be using that same ball to shoot some hoops with your Dad.
Kanyon, you are a blessed young man. I know this because your Dad and Mom are people of integrity. God's Word says, "The righteous man walks in his integrity; His children are blessed after him" (Proverbs 20:7).
Happy Blessings!
Happy Birthday!

I hope you know what amazing love your parents, family and friends have for you but most importantly how much love God has for you. HE definitely has BIG plans for you little man! Already you have touched so many peoples lives, encouraged our faith and brought many tears and smiles and you're just 1 year old. I cannot wait to see what God has in store for your future. I know it is going to be full of miracles and joy!

Kanyon, You don't know me but I have been praying for you since the day you were born. I heard about you from Sarah Floyd. What a blessing it has been to watch you grow - a truly visible reminder of God's grace and goodness. Your young life has already touched many others. Before my own baby was born in January 2008, we were facing the possiblity of a premature birth. Reading your story and seeing you grow helped me know she would be okay, reminded me of God's promises and gave me peace. May God continue to bless you and your parents and family. My heart ached to know that you were having to spend time in the NICU. You are such a fighter. I would hold my little boy and we would pray for you and check up on you daily. Your Mommy and Daddy have been inspirations to the world. Your story has touched many lives and more importantly I am positive that it has introduced Christ to others. Your road was long, but your life is joyous and that is an answered prayer. Congratulations on this first year and many more to come. God is Great!

Happy Birthday, Kanyon. I have followed the amazing course of your life through the wonderful communications from your mom and other special angels. I first heard of you thru another amazing story by Sarah Floyd, the daughter of my very special friend, Jana Floyd. I have no doubt that your life will be equally special, and that you will find much joy and many opportunities to be of service to others. I know that your strength and the love sent to you through your great, loving family will be valuable tools that you can and will use in the future. You have already come so far, even though you probably aren't aware of how really special you have become to so many people who you don't even know. We all think of you frequently and celebrate all the little victories you have accomplished to get you to this place. Surely, the love of God has brought you through, and will continue to be the best gift you will ever be given, on this and any other birthday. It has been a pleasure to meet you through this avenue. I am really going to be sad when your mom gets so busy running after you and teaching you great things that she will no longer be able to keep us up to date. I hope that day comes, because that is the way it should be! Much love and best wishes to you and your whole family. Jennifer Puett, Cordell, Oklahoma

You don't know me, but I was a few years older than your mom and dad at ACU. I was having supper with a good friend of your mommy's the night your mommy went to the hospital, and as my friend began to tell me what was going on, tears started to flow. As I followed your story via this blog, a lump would form in my throat everytime I would log in. We have 2 little boys, and I can only imagine the emotions your mommy and daddy had. But your story is amazing -- and GOD is amazing for what he has done for your family. And although I do not know your family personally, other than the common connection of ACU, I have a love for you and your mommy and daddy through our common faith in Jesus. My sister and I grew up with your mom, Uncle Clint, and Uncle Clay at Lamar Ave Church of Christ. I don't get to see them much anymore since I now live in Arkansas with my husband and daughter, but it's always fun to cross paths when we visit Paris.

Because we love and care for your family so much, we started reading your blog from the first day you were born. I just could not believe the pictures of how tiny your precious little body was! Forever engraved in my mind will be the precious picture of you wearing your daddy's ring as a bracelet. Since that time, I have enjoyed checking the blog for periodic updates and watching you grow and develop. I don't know if you'll ever be able to grasp what a precious gift of God you are, but I know that your mommy & daddy will do their best to teach you! Your life is a living testiment to everyone who knows your story about how great HE is! I doubt there has ever been a day of your life when someone who loves you has not prayed for you specifically. God has heard those prayers and answered them. You are without a doubt the apple of your parents' eyes, and you're a joy for all the rest of us to watch grow!

Kanyon, First of all, Happy Birthday. Then, where to start this comment, is the question. I have known your Mom, for several years. She and my daughter, Beth, were friends in school, played basketball, volleyball, rode seadoos, camped and just generally 'hung out'. If ever you feel the need to 'blackmail' her one of these days, I'm your go-to girl. I've got some great pics of them; swim-suits, seadoos and 4-Runners. When I first heard your Mom was pregnant with you and Jayde, I thought, Jaymie, a Mom, really!! I was so use to seeing her with a basketball in her hand, I just couldn't fathom her with a baby, let alone two babies. But, GOD knew exactly what HE was doing when HE gave you and Jayde to your Mom and Dad. HE picks special parents, for special kids. While this has been a journey they would not have selected for themselves, I have no doubt that GOD chose them for this journey so that they could show others the epitome of Romans 8:28. GOD BLESS you, Kanyon, Mom and Dad. Keep Jayde in your hearts, and GOD the center of your lives. Mom will remember me as, Mama Jane

Dear Kanyon.. we first 'met' on day 76. i remember it clearly..i was blog hopping (im sure mommy can tell you what that means!) when i came across the phillips phamily. intrigued by the whitty title i read the days post. im sure 4lbs 9oz seemed like a lot to your parents at the time..and to those who knew your story from the beginning but it seemed tiny and fragile to me. how could someone be so tiny on day 76? that question lead me to rewind all the way back thru your blog archives to learn a little more about you. i ended up reading every single previous post that afternoon with tears running down my face. from that day forward i have checked on you and your family almost daily. and prayed for you almost as often. you are a very special little boy..loved by so many! im certain that your story has touched more people than you will ever know. i cant say why ive never commented before..but today i couldnt resist the urge to wish you a happy 1st birthday! i cant wait to watch you grow and change thru your second year too!
happy birthday kanyon!

Although I haven't met you yet, I feel like you're a friend already. Hayley and I have enjoyed watching you grow and change with each new picture that is posted on your blog.
You are quite an amazing fellow that I so look forward to meeting one of these days. God couldn't have given you better, more prepared parents, and from the day I met them at ACU, I knew they were special people.
Happy 1st Birthday, and may God continue to bless you and your family.

Feliz cumpleanos! That means happy birthday!! You'll get more into it later, I'm sure. Kanyon, we've been watching you grow for more than a year now. My, how you've grown. You have just done so very much in your one year. I wander what all you will do in the years to come! We watched you grow right beside that basketball. We can't wait until you're outside shooting hoops. Your great-grand mother and my grand mother were sisters. Can you belive that? So, we'll be watching and praying for you for all those many, many, many more birhtdays to come! Happy Birthday, Kan! Can't wait until the next one!

Dear Kanyon,
You don’t know me, but I began reading your blog after my friend told me about your story way back when you were still in the NICU. Of course I had to go back and read from the beginning and have been praying for you ever since. What an inspiration it’s been to see your parents’ tremendous faith in our God and the love they have for you! You are such a special little boy and truly an example of God’s miracles! Happy 1st birthday Kanyon!

Sweet Babyboy Kanyon! I met you before you were born, when you mom talked about how your sister was the "wild one" inside and you were keeping cool! Nothing's proven more true. You've been so strong and such an example of how the Lord makes sense out of confusion and a testament to the fact that we serve a might King! Through most of these pictures, we've seen you poked, cut, held, force fed, pushed and pulled in so many ways to make you better and I think I could count on my hand how many pictures have shown you cry. You're strong. The Lord has given you strength physically and your sweet smile and joyful self has given strength to all those that know you. We all love you so much and keep cheering you on through it all! Never forget how much you're loved.

Happy First Birthday!! You are so strong, such a fighter, and yet have the sweetest of all smiles. You truly are a powerful example of God's power and the faith of so many believers. Your life has touched more people than we can count in just a year's time, I know that will only continue as He writes your story.

I am a friend and huge fan of your parents. I have known them since college, before they knew you would be in their plans. You are very lucky to have them. They are my faith heros.

Oh what a precious gift you are!

By the time you are old enough to read and understand this, I guess you won’t be a baby anymore, so I’ll address this to the young man that you have become. By now I’m sure you have heard a lot of stories about your birth and your sister and your journey through babyhood. It was not easy for you or your parents, but it has been amazing to see how God has worked in you and in the people around you. Even as a little baby, you have helped so many people to grow in their faith in put their trust in Jesus. You have been loved and prayed for since long before you were born, and I know that God must have big plans for your future. In the past year, I have loved watching you grow from such a tiny little kitten into such a big strapping baby boy! I look forward to watching you continue to grow into a young man. I am always excited to hear about the latest thing you’re doing, and I especially love it when we get to see you in person, which is not often enough. Roselyn is ready for you to grow a little more so she can play with you, so keep drinking that milk. I know you guys will be great friends some day. You have no choice – you’re family!

Kanyon, you are a living example of God’s love and power, and I am so honored to be a part of your life.

I love you so much!

Your parents are strong and it is easy to see that have passed that strength on to you. I know your family will continue to touch countless lives with your story. Happy 1st birthday, sweet boy!

Sweet Kanyon, I have never met you, your Mommy or your Daddy but I check in on your family every few days. I had my own little boy just a few months after you and your sister were born. I watched very closely through that hard time and sent happy thoughts and wishes out to you and your family once you finally got to go home.

You always manage to put a big smile on my face when I read about your development and see your pictures. You seem like such a wonderful little boy. Your Mommy and Daddy are very lucky to have you in their life! You have inspired so many people - you won't really understand that until you are older. Thank you for letting us be a part of your life.

Happy 1st Birthday!

Hey Kanyon,
Before you were born, your Mommy was a teacher with me at White Oak Primary school. She was a great teacher and is such a great person. God paired the two of you up a long time ago. He knew you were just right for each other. As much as we miss her around there, she is doing such an important job right now taking care of you. Hang in there, buddy--you have no idea how many people are cheering you on!
Sincerely,
Emily R.
PS-Jaymie, I can't believe you had to "sneak a kiss!" I just cannot imagine. You are such an inspiration. Good luck with the feeding--I hope you get some relief soon!

You most likely will never meet all of them, but I pray that someday you will be able to grasp the idea of how many people's live you have touched. You are a miracle from God, and have truly earned your nickname "Grand Kanyon!" Your first year journey has been so amazing to get to watch from the help of your mommy and Aunt Rachel. It takes many of us years to see and realize the glory of God in all that we see and do. God put you and Jayde to work from the beginning. Grabbing our hearts and taking us all on this amazing ride with you. As we have watched you grow and conquer so many things, our lives have underwent such change also. Thank you for giving me such insight into the heart and helping me grow spiritually. Faiths have been changed because of your sweet life!! I love seeing pictures that your mommy puts on the computer. What a handsome guy you are!! Although you are only one year old, your life has touched more people than many ever will. Through you're life, people have come together and prayed harder than they may have ever prayed. And that in itself is amazing. God chose you to be Jaymie and Kory's little boy, and Jayde's twin brother, and He has great things in store for you. And as you continue to grow stronger every day, and every obstacle that may come your way, just know that you have a team of prayer warriors that will always be on your side. We love you!

To Jaymie and Kory: Bless you! Your incredible spirits have inspired. Some days when I know you wanted to sit down and cry, you lifted us up by your words and your pictures. You have a God-given ability to love through the pain - and as Jaymie reminded me, "I do not have a choice." Precious ones, I know I have never been prouder to be a Cagle cousin and to have such amazing people to call family. To the rest of blog-land, thank you for your love and support. Your words have inspired us all.

Dear Kanyon - As many others have said, you dont know us... but we have prayed for you often in the last year. Your mommy is a friend of one of our mommy's friends from ACU, and that is how we heard about you and your sweet sister, Jayde. Our mommy showed us your picture when you were so tiny and we enjoy checking in on "baby Kanyon" from time to time to see how you were doing. We are so happy that you are doing so well and we will continue to pray for God to take care of you and help you to grow to be one of His children. We know you are sad not to have baby Jayde not here with you, but we rejoice in the fact that she is up in Heaven sitting in Jesus' lap with our sister, Rebecca.
You have such an incredible story of God's faithfulness. Thank you for sharing it with so many people!
