Weekend Update

I am happy to report that this past weekend was not a disaster!!!! YIPEEE!! By Thursday Kanyon was starting to eat better and get things back going again. I was in and out this weekend and was nervous about leaving him, but he did great with my Mom Friday night while I was gone and Kory stayed here Sat. night so I could go to church Sunday and he did great with him too. This is really the first weekend that he hasn't regressed a lot!

As far as going home, we are getting closer. There is almost no way that we will go home "fixed" but we will go home better. On Friday the speech therapist (who is kind of in charge of his feeding) said she thinks that he will need about 4 more weeks with the NG tube. We obviously aren't going to stay here 4 more weeks, so it is looking like we will go home with the tube. She just said he needs time. I am fine with it, but I will have to be trained on how to put the NG tube in so that if it comes out at home I can put it back in. I am not thrilled about this, but I figure I can do it if I have to. But, for all of our NICU nurses that read this...be ready...I may have to call one of you in to supervise the event!!! The other thing with going home is that they are trying to get us into the GI specialist. We already have an appointment for June 9, but they wanted to get us in sooner. We will be here at least until we see the GI Dr. and see what he says and then go from there. If I thought we were closer to being tube free, I'd be pushing to just stay here and get it over with, but since its looking like we're still a few weeks away, I'm just ready to be home. This will be our 6th week.

Of course I have pics to give you the fun updates!

His braces for his legs came in. They made one for both feet, but they are a little different. The way crooked foot has more stuff on it. The "good foot" is still not perfectly straight, so they made one for that one too. He wears them on 2 hours off 2 hours during the day. He doesn't seem to mind them. We have been needing these for a while, so I'm thankful we've had access to so many great resources since we've been here. They also Xrayed the feet and the bones are all normal in both feet. So, that is one more thing we can rule out. We are now fixed up with a physical medicine dr. here that will follow us and we are trying again to get in to Scottish Rite. We'll just have to see where these little feet take us!

Cousin Shane and Crystal came by to say hello and meet Kanyon~

Oh man I could look at this picture all day. Not only are these 2 of my favorite girls in the whole universe, but Kanyon cracks me up flashing that smile!

Kanyon has SOO many girlfriends its not even funny. Its kinda like they've been "internet dating" for the last year, but now he's getting to meet some of them in person. This is Ava Muns. She was born like 2 days after Kanyon. She is so fun and sweet!

This is one of Kanyon's possible future mother-in-laws, Kyla (Ava's mom). I could tell Kanyon liked her because he wouldn't stop eating her hair and licking her.

Meeting chicks gets tiring. Here he is about to loose the thumby...

And GONE! That is some good sleepin' right there (on Kasey's shoulder of course)!

I agree with you about Kanyon's smile- it's precious. (and, from what I understand from my boys, "chicks" are exhausting!!!!) I'm glad you two will be heading home soon. I know this hasn't been easy on any of you. Maybe we can get together sometime when you get back.
Love you,
Christie (& family)

Jaymie and Kanyon,

I have been following your story since my cousin told me about your blog. She is married to Roger, your sister in law's brother (i think). Anyway, Kanyon looks great. I can tell the tube is really putting on some "chunk". Jaymie, don't worry about the tube. You will be able to do it. My Harrison went home with a Gbutton tube and I had to learn how to replce the tube every 3 weeks. It is amazing how God shows us how strong we really are. Who knew? Also, the braces work. They are slow, but they do help. My Harrison wears them. He got them when he was 18 months and he was able to walk when he turned 2. I just wanted you to know that there is light at the end of the tunnel...it is just 5 miles an hour. My baby is 2.5 now and we are still going 5 miles an hour, but sometimes I think we get on cruise control for a little bit. You can visit our blog, when you have time haha, just blog google Harrison Hartgraves. Good luck with the end of your camp. We will continue to ask God for his guidance for you and your family.

As always, y'all are in our prayers. You know, so many are praying about his eating, he may end up with an obesity problem some day. Seriously, we sure hope y'all can go home soon, with working solutions. Y'all take care!

Jaymie and Kanyon (and Kory, too!),
I am sooo proud of all of you for hanging in there and toughing it out! There IS a light at the end of the tunnel, and God would not have sent you to OCH if it wasn't going to help! So glad he is doing so well in therapy, too! You know I LOVE those braces! (finally...!) =:) He looks great and well entertained! Keep up the good work, the home fires are just a burnin'! Keep me posted!
Love, Celia
