Movin' Right Along

Sorry no update yesterday. I couldn't get to my computer and I wasn't up for typing on my phone.  Can you tell klp isn't sleeping as much?!  SHEESH!  He's busy so I don't have time on my hands really.  He is feeling much better, but he is still not 100%.  They said it could be months before all of his numbers are back to normal, so he may be low on energy for a while.  The silver lining is THEY TOLD ME NOT TO START HIM BACK TO SCHOOL YET!!!!!  This reluctant-school mom is HAPPY! We'll just give him a few weeks to settle in before we start him.

The latest news is good news.  He made it 3 days with no blood or dialysis so they feel like he's over the hump.  In fact, we are scheduled for surgery this afternoon to take out the catheter/port!  For sure his kidney numbers are good and still getting better, so we are very confident that the dialysis is over.  He is getting a blood transfusion right now because his numbers were borderline this morning.  The surgery team wanted them higher to do the surgery.  Our Nephrologist feels like this will be the last time he needs blood.  Even with the catheter out, he can still get blood if he needs it through a regular IV.  We are, of course, hoping that we won't need anymore. I am glad we're getting this thing out, I don't like the thought of having some foreign something in his veins that go straight to his heart.  YIKES.  I'm sure they will watch us for at least a day or 2 before they let us leave, but we could be out of here by FRIDAY!!!! YEAH!!!!!  I am ready to go, but if we have to stay a few extra days or something to keep watching his blood or to give him more blood, then I'm fine with that too.  I'd rather go home with peace of mind than go home in a rush!

He is scheduled for surgery at 2:45 as long as his blood work after the transfusion is good (which we expect it will be) and as long as he doesn't get bumped if an emergency comes up.  They said its a super fast procedure, maybe 30 min.  So we will pray all goes well there.  The only bummer is he hasn't eaten since midnight and can't eat or drink until after his surgery.  Luckily he's slept the morning away so we won't have to keep him happy as long.  We had a long night of fluid hook ups, blood checks, and surgery prep, so he's catching up.

I'll update after the surgery (which will likely NOT be on time....we know how this goes).  Thank you for your prayers.
